Level Three is represented by an ED with one or more specific initiatives that are reasonably expected to elevate the level of care of seniors in one or more specific areas. Personnel to implement these efforts are identified and trained. Metrics for the initiative/initiatives are followed.



  • 1 MD or DO with evidence of 4 hours of focused education for geriatric EM
  • 1 RN with evidence of focused education for geriatric EM

Equipment and Supplies

  • Access to mobility aids (canes, four-point walkers)

Care Processes, Policies, Guidelines and Procedures

  • Evidence of a geriatric emergency care initiative (e.g., medication reconciliation for older ED patients)

Physical Environment

  • Easy access to food and drink 24/7
