ACEP Advocacy: Promoting Physician Leaders

ACEP advocacy is laser-focused on efforts to improve patient access, work toward fair reimbursement, and promote physician leadership. Take a look at highlights from our November activity on your behalf:

Promoting emergency physician leadership

This year, Indiana ACEP secured passage of legislation requiring a physician on-site, on-duty, and responsible for the emergency department. Building from this momentum, we created a physician staffing requirement toolkit (member login required) that includes model bill language, advocacy tips, and resources to help you encourage support for physician leadership in the ED.

Protecting emergency physician reimbursement

ACEP joined with other medical specialties to advocate for reimbursement fixes and called for adjustments to the Physician Fee Schedule. A newly introduced bipartisan bill (H.R. 6683) that could eliminate the looming cuts needs your support.

Congress needs to hear directly from you to prevent a scheduled 3.4% cut to Medicare physician reimbursement. Act Now

Improving patient access to emergency care

ACEP strongly supports the "Helping Educators Respond to Overdoses (HERO) Act" (H.R. 6251), legislation introduced by Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Raul Ruiz, MD (D-CA) to equip schools and educators with overdose reversal medications.

We are working across the aisle to encourage the passage of the bipartisan "Mental Health Infrastructure Improvement Act" (H.R. 5804), introduced by Reps. Derek Kilmer (D-WA) and Don Bacon (R-KS), which would help build out mental health supports and infrastructure to help alleviate the boarding crisis.

And, we responded to a congressional request for information (RFI) from House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) on "Improving Access to Health Care in Rural and Underserved Areas."

This only begins to scratch the surface of work ACEP does for emergency physicians and patients. As an ACEP member, you fuel our efforts to move the specialty forward.
